YOUR DOCTOR CLEARED YOU.
NOW WHAT?
Post-rehab training is the bridge between medical clearance and full capacity. Physical therapy returns you to normal function. Cleared does not mean rebuilt.
A foot injury changes your gait. The gait destabilizes the hip. The hip loads the knee. The knee refers to the back. Self-rehab, even with the internet’s help, plugs one hole while the next one opens, because it treats the symptom and misses the chain.
Injury is not an information gap. It’s an observation gap. We assess where you are strong, where you are weak, and where you are compensating, then program the rebuild at the pace your body earns. We do not diagnose and we do not treat. Your providers manage the injury. We execute what comes after, and we coordinate with them throughout.
Abby leads our injury and post-surgery coaching. She is a board-certified physical therapist in New York, and she advises across our entire coaching team. Tev and Miles handle sports injury rehab and return to play for athletes. Behind them is a team that has rebuilt every kind of client: athletes coming back to their sport, desk workers whose bodies broke down slowly, and older adults recovering strength they were told was gone. Every client gets a lead coach who owns the program.
Most injuries are not exotic. These five areas cover nearly everything that walks through our door. If yours is not here, ask.
ACL, MCL, LCL, and meniscus repairs. Return to sport and return to life.
Rotator cuff tears, labrum repairs, dislocations, and instability.
Herniated discs, bulging discs, and post-surgical spines. Strength that ends the guarding.
Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and the grip and hand injuries that come with combat sports.
Impingement, labral tears, and the gait and foot problems that start the chain.
A free consult call to review your injury, history, clearance status, and whether we are the right next step.
Your coach measures strength, asymmetries, and compensation patterns. You see exactly what the injury left behind.
A program built around your history and clearance. Progressive by design, coordinated with your providers.
We retest until the numbers match your old self, or beat them. Everything points to one place: a body you trust again.
Physical therapy is healthcare: it treats the injury and returns you to normal function. Post-rehab training at Physical Culture Brooklyn picks up at clearance, when the job becomes rebuilding strength, capacity, and confidence. We progress intensity, load, and complexity, informed by your provider’s notes. Less hand-holding, more challenge, always within the context of what your body just went through.
Yes. Abby, who leads our injury and post-surgery coaching, is a board-certified physical therapist in New York. Insurance is case by case depending on your network, so reach out and ask. Many clients train cash-only and get what a clinic rarely offers: a full private hour with a physical therapist, not fifteen minutes between three other patients. Others keep their outside PT and use us for the training side. Both work.
Do not confuse discharge with finished. Keep your PT’s instructions, then start rebuilding what your life or sport actually demands: strength, range, conditioning, power, and trust under real load. You do not need to live on the same three rehab exercises forever, and you should not jump back into old training at full speed. The next phase should get progressively harder as your capacity returns.
Because cleared and rebuilt are not the same milestone. You can be medically ready to progress with strength, power, and confidence still left to build; the demands of lifting, running, and sport extend past the clinical endpoint. Nothing went wrong with your rehab. We test what is actually there, find the remaining gap, and train it instead of guessing.
This is the most common client we see. Most people are not still injured so much as weak somewhere, and the body compensates: one weak link overworks the next until something flares and nobody knows why. The assessment finds where the chain is failing. It is not too late, and you do not need a referral to start.
Sometimes, and pain does not automatically mean damage. Our working rule: symptoms that stay around a 2 or 3 out of 10 during training are usually manageable; creeping toward a 5 means we back off. Healing stage, your provider’s restrictions, and how you feel the next day all count. We do not chase pain and we do not push blindly through it. Symptoms are information.
No honest universal number exists. The injury, the surgery, your training history, and the level you are returning to all move the timeline, and returning to daily life is very different from returning to a heavy squat or a basketball league. Instead of an eight-week promise, we baseline, progress, and retest until the numbers match your old self, or beat them.
Pain-free is not enough and neither is a date on the calendar. Return to sport is a progression: participating, then playing, then performing at your previous level, and strength, power, conditioning, and confidence all have to show up in testing along the way. Your medical team owns the clearance. We rebuild and test the qualities your sport demands, then hand off to sport-specific training.
If it is a familiar, stable issue, the assessment is the starting point: we test strength, asymmetries, and movement to find what is failing and what is compensating. If the pain is new, unexplained, or worsening fast, get it evaluated first; we will tell you so, and we can build around what you find. For ongoing conditions, our Chronic Pain and Chronic Conditions coaching is the better door.
Yes, with your permission. We share what we see in training, fold their notes into our programming, and report progress back; surgeons often want specific strength numbers before full clearance, and we test exactly that. Everyone keeps their lane. Your medical team owns diagnosis and clearance, and the handoff from rehab to real life gets much better when information moves.
